Import Data

In order to import people, leagues, or league bowlers into Bowler TRAC, the data you wish to import must be in a text file format.  The Bowler TRAC Getting Started Guide has extensive instructions on how to import data.

Type of Import

This is type of data you are importing.  You can import people, leagues, and league bowlers into Bowler TRAC, although each must be done separately.   If you want to import league bowlers, you must first import the leagues and the people.

File to Import

This is the name of the file that contains the text data you wish to import.  Bowler TRAC can only import data from a text file.  If you have data in another format (such as Excel or Microsoft Access), you must save (or export) that information to a text file before you can import it.

Format of Data

This is where you choose the format of the data being imported.  While all data is in a text file format, this format describes the order of the fields in the text file and where each field begins and ends.  If this it the first time you are importing a file of a certain format, click the 'New Format' button to the right to define a new format.  If the file is imported from software applications that support the BITS standards, select the BITS format.

Backup Before Import

It is strongly recommended that you backup your data before importing large amounts of data.  In the event that you don't like the results of the import, you can restore from this backup and try it again.  Click this option to perform a backup automatically.

Compact After Import

If you are using a Microsoft Access database to store your Bowler TRAC data (most Bowler TRAC users do) the database tends to get unnecessarily large after importing large amounts of data.  Compacting the database is a recommended option to keep the size of the database small.

Name Source

If you are importing people, you can automatically assign a name source to each person imported by selecting a name source here.

Affinity Group

If you are importing people, you can automatically add each people imported to an affinity group by selecting an affinity group here.
